Social marketing is the fastest growing thing in online marketing. It has become a great way for people to interact online and webmasters can quickly grab traffic for their high quality websites and articles. As social marketing has grown, it has become more of a tactical approach to marketing on the web instead of just something else to do.

If you think that your website could benefit from social marketing in terms of traffic or link-building, Lee Odden has posted a wonderful post at TopRank Online Marketing about the Best and Worst Practices in Social Media Marketing. I really enjoyed his post as it goes through the key things that you should and shouldn’t do. It is often easy to forget that doing the things we shouldn’t do in online marketing can be more important than doing the things that we should. Either way, if you are at all interested in social marketing for your website or product, check out Lee’s blog post.

Easy Way to See Who Your Competition Links Out To

In our Google-centric online world, it is very easy to forget about MSN Live Search. It’s no wonder then that I had no clue about MSN’s awesome linkfromdomain: search operator! I came across it in a post on Daily SEO Tip and have been playing with it for a little while now.

Using this neat little tool is very easy and you can find a list of webpages that are being linked to by a given domain. All you need to do is perform a MSN Live search in the format linkfromdomain:domain.com.  Use it to check out your competition and find networks of inter-linked sites. You might also use it to find sites that link out to websites similar to yours and try to get a link for yourself. If nothing else, check out the linkfromdomain operator to remind yourself that there is still a search engine out there besides Google. It is so easy to forget that these days!

As we all await the next major Pagerank update from Google, I am beginning to see a few signs that suggest it may be very soon. I have a couple of different web directories that I run List Site Free and Affiliate Marketing Linx. I run regular updates on the Pagerank of the sites listed in my directories and I am beginning to see some of them start to shift around. Does this guarantee an immenent Pagerank update? Of course not, but it is a strong indication that one may be coming within the next several days. All we can do now is wait and see!

Tips for the Title Tag

When it comes to the “on-page” SEO factors, nothing is more important or easier to control than the Title tag. So, what makes a well crafted Title tag? If you want to make sure your entire title ends up being completely shown in the SERPs, try to keep your title to under 70 characters, including spaces. What makes 70 the magic number? Normally, Google will cut off long titles when displaying titles in its results pages and only show between 65 and 70 characters.

It is important to note that even though Google only displays about 70 characters of the title, it actually factors the entire title when ranking pages. This little fact can help webmasters improve rankings for longer keywords and phrases. One way to get the best of both worlds is to focus on your primary keywords in the early part of the title and related terms in the latter portion that may not show up in the search engine results pages.

One final tip to keep in mind is to keep your title appealing and readable so people searching for your key terms will want to click on your link. Stuffing your title with too many keywords will make it seem unnatural and will likely turn potential visitors off when they are looking through the search engine results.

Ewen Chia’s Internet Wealth Review

If there is any name more recognizable in the online money-making program business than Ewen Chia, I’m not sure who’s it is. Ewen has released product after hit product and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. His latest release is an online course called Ewen Chia’s Internet Wealth. When I came across this product, I couldn’t help but wonder if it lived up to the standard of Chia’s past products. After signing up for the Internet Wealth online course, here are my thoughts.

The Internet Wealth Course is comprised of a 100 page ebook that covers the steps that are necessary to become a successful online marketer. Ewen’s vast experience and knowledge are easily noticed in Internet Wealth, as he does a great job of providing detailed steps that even first-timers can implement. One of the most interesting aspects to this product is that Ewen first focuses on what you need to avoid in order to be successful, then goes into the pro-active steps that you can take to pave your path to success.

Internet Wealth focuses much of its contents on what I believe to be the most important item in online marketing, staying disciplined. All too often we want to try out every new marketing product that comes out and never stay focused on any one product or project long enough to realize its benefits. Learning the ways to stay focused and disciplined are critical to being successful online.

I would absolutely recommend Ewen Chia’s Internet Wealth to anyone in the beginner to intermediate knowledge range. Experts will likely not find some of the more complicated and advanced techniques that they crave, but other will greatly benefit from the 7 day plan presented in this book. Learning from one of the most successful internet marketers of all time is never a bad idea and Ewen Chia’s latest product is certainly worth a look.

Google Pagerank Overlay Tool

SEO Bench has a great Pagerank overlay tool on their website that will show you the PR of every link on the page that you are browsing. While it does make the page a little cluttered, it could be very helpful in analyzing your competition or finding issues with your site’s internal linking structure.

There is a firefox plugin on the website also, but I was unable to get it to work with the latest version of Firefox. Either way, this is a really nice tool to add to your webmaster toolkit.

How Many Outbound Links Is Too Many?

Posted by admin in Wednesday, March 11th 2009

It has been pretty widely agreed upon in the SEO community that having too many links on a web page is a negative factor for Pagerank. In addition to “linking” more of your site’s PR to other websites, pages with too many links are often identified by the search engines as a link farm (spam).

Matt Cutts addressed this issue on his blog recently. Google has recommended that webmasters “keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100).” So, does this mean that 100 links is the magic number that separates quality pages from spam? Not exactly. Cutts mentions that the “100 links”  recommendation is not meant to be a guide to page quality. Just because a page has more than 100 links does not mean that Google will classify it as spam, but it does increase the risk. The liklihood of being labeled as “spammy” goes up considerably if the links are hidden or keyword-stuffed or if many of the pages being linked to have been identified as spammy.

So, what happens if you have more than 100 links on one of your pages? Cutts says that Google might choose not to follow or index all of those links. Even if the links are followed, Pagerank is being split evenly between all of the links so that the benefit for any one link is minuscule. The bottom line is that it isn’t a deadly sin to have over a hundred links on a single page, but if you find yourself in that situation…stop and reconsider how the high number of links will affect the usability of your page and the user experience.
